ABOUT SPEAKERS
Prof. Eldad Ben-Chetrit - the Head of Rheumatology Unit and FMF Clinic at Hadassah Hebrew niversity Medical Center in Israel. He was a member in the French FMF consortium which identified the gene associated with FMF and he participated in the NIH study which discovered the association of a SNP in the gene encoding IL-10 with Behcet's disease. Prof. Ben-Chetrit is a recipient of several national and international awards and the author of more than 200 publications and chapters in books.
Prof. Avi Livneh - Director of the FMF Institute, Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer, Israel. The FMF Institute has been serving the FMF population since the 1950s and is recognized worldwide for its tremendous contribution to the study of the disease. The FMF Institute has its own patients association with a mission to fundraise, improve FMF status in governmental facilities and educate patients' families and physicians about the disease. Most of his research work concerns autoantibodies against a diversity of antigens. In the last six years his main avenue of basic research is in Amyloidosis and genetic aspects of FMF. The Institute has its own laboratory facility for genetic diagnosis of FMF and other periodic fever diseases (HIDS, TRAPS, FCIU, MWS, CINCA), and genetic and proteinaceous diagnosis of Amyloidosis.
Prof. Yackov Berkun - MD, Head of Department of Pediatrics, Pediatric Immunology and Rheumatology & FMF clinic, Hadassah Mount Scopus, Israel. The Hadassah Mt. Scopus Pediatrics Dept. is the largest in Jerusalem, providing the most advanced care to the children of Greater Jerusalem and also to children from all over Israel and abroad.
Prof. Alberto Martini - MD, Professor, President of the Paediatric Rheumatology European Society (PRES), Founder and Chairman of the Pediatric Rheumatology International Trial Organization (PRINTO), the author of more than 300 papers in peer reviewed journals related to paediatric rheumatic diseases. Since 2001: Professor of Pediatrics, Dept of Pediatrics, University of Genoa, Director Pediatria II, EULAR Centre of Excellence in Rheumatology 2008-13), IRCCS Istituto G. Gaslini, GENOVA, ITALY
Prof. Marco Gattorno - MD, Pediatric Rheumatologist, working at "G. Gaslini" Institute for Children in Genoa, Italy. His main scientific interests involve the study of the pathogenic mechanisms of the rheumatic conditions in children and the clinical and pathogenic characterization of the monogenic autoinflammatory diseases. He is author of more than 100 full-papers on international journals and author of the Chapter "The Immune System and the Inflammatory Response" in the Textbook of Pediatric Rheumatology. He is the Principal Investigator of the "Eurofever" Project.
Dr. Christian Oberkanins - PhD, MBA, is Head of R&D at Viennalab Diagnostics, GMbH, Vienna, Austria, responsible for development of diagnostics tests and research projects. The main topics of Dr. Oberkanins are in molecular technologies and genetics, including the reverse-hybridization assay for detection of gene mutation in patients. He has high professional skills and expertise in genotyping, DNA sequencing for molecular diagnostics of different genetic disorders, including FMF, cystic fibrosis, cardiovascular, etc.
Dr.Mariam Grigorian - Associate Professor, Neuro-Oncology Group, Laboratory of Neuroplasticity. Dept. of Neuroscience and Pharmacology, Faculty of Health and Medical Science, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The main topic is Pro-inflammatory factors in metastasis, Contribution of systemic chronic inflammation in tumor progression, Targets for anti-cancer/metastasis therapy. First identified and characterized mts1/S100A4 as metastasis-promoting gene, discovered its essential role in tumor microenvironment and inflammatory milieu.
